Two varieties of Suave aerosol deodorant have been recalled due to elevated benzene levels

In November of 2021, Old Spice and Secret recalled aerosol deodorants. That was quickly followed by Brut and Sure in February of this year. The list of recalled aerosol deodorants now includes 2 varieties of Suave by Unilever after an internal review revealed elevated levels of benzene.

Recalled Products:

Suave 24-Hour Protection Aerosol Antiperspirant Powder

UPC #079400751508 and #079400784902

Size 4 oz and 6 oz.

Suave 24-Hour Protection Aerosol Antiperspirant Fresh

UPC #079400785503

Size 6 oz.

Benzene is a known human carcinogen. It’s been linked to leukemia and blood cancers. Benzene exposure can occur through inhalation, consumption, or topical treatments through the skin. Benzene actually isn’t even an ingredient in the recalled Suave deodorants. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, it’s suspected the presence of benzene is due to the “propellant that sprays the product out of the can.”

While initially sold in stores and online, Suave had actually already ceased the sale of the Suave 24-Hour Protection Aerosol Antiperspirant products for what the FDA calls “business reasons”. Retailers have been instructed to remove the recalled products from their shelves, and Unilever is granting refunds to customers that request them. If you have questions about the recall you can reach Unilever at 1-866-204-9756.
