Study says some chain dollar stores sell products made with toxic chemicals
A recent study released by Campaign for Healthier Solutions has created some serious concerns for Americans who shop at discount stores such as Dollar General, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, etc. The report shows that the stores are in the business of selling products containing chemicals shown to cause “cancer, diabetes and other serious illnesses.” Through the released report and their website, Campaign for Healthier Solutions is applying pressure on the stores to stop selling products containing hazardous chemicals. According to the report, “81 percent of the products tested contain at least one chemical above levels of concern.” The toxic chemicals include phthalates that have been linked to cancer, learning disability, and infertility as well as lead. The chemicals have been found in products ranging from carpet runners and bathtub decorations, to children’s toys. While these types of discount chains sell many of the same products as the big-box stores, it’s important to read the labels carefully before purchasing items that may contain these hazardous chemicals.
