Potential salmonella contamination leads to recall of nearly 50 Jif products
J.M. Smucker Co., in coordination with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, has issued a voluntary recall of almost 50 Jif products, 49 to be exact. The recall was issued due to the potential presence of Salmonella. There are too many recalled varieties to list on this page, but a comprehensive list can be found at the link at the bottom of this post.
Contracting salmonella, while unpleasant, isn’t often dangerous for most healthy Americans. For the young, elderly, and those with weakened immune systems though, it can be of greater concern. Arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis are all serious symptoms one could suffer from.
The recalled products were distributed to retailers nationwide. They have lot codes 1274425 - 2140425. Consumers that purchased any of the recalled products should dispose of them immediately. If you’d like to contact J.M. Smucker about the recall, you can visit them at: http://www.jif.com/contact-us or by calling 1-800-828-9980.
