Dried plums recall due to elevated levels of lead expanded

We wrote just a little over a week ago about the recall of Lupag Dried Salted Plums due to elevated levels of lead. The recall has now been expanded to include SnakYard Dried Plums sold in Costco stores, as well as Saladitos Dried Plums, and Saladitos Con Chile y Limon Dried Plums.

Recalled Products:

SnakYard Dried Plums

Item #1516905

Saladitos Dried Plums

UPC #7049277600694

Saladitos Con Chile y Limon Dried Plums

UPC #704927600700

As we wrote previously, elevated levels of lead can be extremely dangerous. Consuming products containing elevated levels of lead can lead to lead poisoning. Unlike some other foodborne illnesses, lead poisoning can be extremely dangerous for consumers of all ages. While lead is found in almost every product we encounter these days, we’re usually only exposed to small, safe levels of lead.

The newly recalled SnakYard Dried Plums being recalled were sold in Costco warehouses in Alaska, California, Oregon, and Washington. The Saladitos Dried Plums and Saladitos Con Chile y Limon Dried Plums were sold in retailers in California, Nevada, and Utah. That means in total the recall now includes 4 varieties: Lupag Dried Salted Plums, SnakYard Dried Plums, Saladitos Dried Plums, and Saladitos Con Chile y Limon Dried Plums.

Costco sent an alert to members that read in part, “If you still have any of this product, please stop using the item and return it to your local Costco for a full refund.” So far, no illnesses have been reported related to this recall.
