Amy’s Kitchen recalls Vegan Organic Rice Mac & Cheeze due to undeclared milk
Amy’s Kitchen has issued a recall for nearly 16,000 cases of their Vegan Organic Rice Mac & Cheeze because it contained “trace amounts of milk”. Setting aside the fact that consumers purchasing vegan products expect them to actually be vegan, containing milk when not indicated on the packaging could be extremely dangerous for those with severe allergies.

Normally consuming undeclared milk would simply be an inconvenience, especially for a vegan. However, when you’re talking about someone with an allergy to milk consuming it unknowingly, things can get pretty scary pretty quickly. As for this recall, it was initiated after a third-party tester received a positive result, and informed Amy’s. Amy’s then immediately informed the U. S. Food and Drug Administration.
Amy’s Kitchen has directed retailers to remove the products from their shelves, and asks that customers discard or return the recalled Mac & Cheeze. They’ve taken swift action, and want their customers to know that they’re doing all they can to rectify the situation and make sure it doesn’t happen again. In the post on the FDA’s website, they stated, “At Amy’s Kitchen, the safety of consumers is the top priority. Amy’s follows the highest possible food safety and quality control standards to ensure the safety and full enjoyment of its meals and is committed to implementing corrective actions flowing from the investigation of this event.”
