Aerosol product recall expanded over benzene concerns

Procter & Gamble has extended their recall of aerosol products due to the presence of the human carcinogen benzene. Last month, P&G issued a recall of 8 varieties of aerosol deodorants. Now they’ve expanded that recall to include more product types and brands.

Aerosol dry conditioners and shampoos have been added to the P&G recall. The list of recalled products now also includes more than 30 products from the Pantene, Aussie, Herbal Essences, and Waterless brands. This is in addition to the previously recalled Old Spice and Hair Food sprays.

The concerns with the newly recalled products remain the same. Benzene is a known human carcinogen. It’s been linked to leukemia and blood cancers. Benzene exposure can occur through inhalation, consumption, or topical treatments through the skin. Which of course is of great concern when you’re talking about products applied through aerosol cans directly or near the skin.
