Salmonella is dangerous when pets and humans alike come into contact with it, but pets are especially susceptible. Cats suffering from salmonella may vomit or have diarrhea. It’s also possible they may exhibit mild symptoms like decreased appetite, fever, and excessive salivation. It’s also possible for cats to become sick with salmonella, show no symptoms, and to pass it to others. If you believe your cat has contracted salmonella, please contact your veterinarian.

Humans that have contracted salmonella can expect to experience symptoms such as: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. If you believe you’ve been exposed to salmonella, you should contact your physician as soon as possible.
