140+ brands of dog and cat food recalled due to salmonella

Nearly 150 varieties of dog and cat foods have been recalled over salmonella concerns. Midwestern Pet Foods of Evansville, Indiana issued the voluntary recall of CanineX, Earthborn Holistic, Venture, Unrefined, Sportmix Wholesomes, Pro Pac, Pro Pac Ultimates, Sportstrail, Sportmix and Meridian branded pet foods.

Salmonella is a concern for both pets and humans alike. Pets that consume food contaminated with salmonella can become sick, as well as humans that handle the contaminated food. Signs to look for if you’re wondering if your pet has salmonella poisoning are: they become lethargic, have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and/or vomiting. The recalled foods were shipped to stores throughout the United States as well across the world.

The recalled foods should be pulled from store shelves immediately, and distribution ceased. Make sure you do not feed your pets any of the recalled foods, nor should you handle it. Please either return it to your retailer for a refund, or dispose of it immediately. Customers with questions can contact Midwestern Pet FOods by phone at 1-800-474-4163 Monday through Friday.
