Schumer warns against toxic chemicals in Halloween makeup

Halloween is an exciting holiday for many families, especially children. We all remember getting dressed up in our favorite costumes, trick-or-treating, and attending Halloween parties. But today there are serious concerns about some of the products used for kids’ costumes, specifically the makeup/face paint they use. The majority of the makeup is created in China, and “contains dangerous chemicals such as lead, nickel, cobalt and chromium — all which pose serious health risks.” US Senator Charles Schumer is just one of many speaking up to warn families over the growing concerns with Halloween makeup. An independent study by Campaign for Safe Cosmetics found that “of the 10 face paints tested contained lead and six of them had nickel, cobalt and/or chromium.” Senator Schumer isn’t just urging parents to make smart choices when buying Halloween makeup; he’s also pushing the FDA for tougher regulations.
