Billy + Margot dog food recalled due to salmonella concerns

Billy + Margot Wild Kangaroo + Superfoods Recipe dog food in the 4 lb bag variety has been recalled due to salmonella concerns. The announcement came from parent company Real Pet Food Company, and is considered a voluntary recall. Exposure to salmonella is a risk for not only the pets being fed the food, but their owners doing the feeding.

Salmonella can cause such minor symptoms as vomiting, diarrhea, cramping, and fever. In some serious cases though, it can also lead to as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration explains, “endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.” Fortunately, so far no illnesses have been reported.

The recall was initiated after a routine sampling inspection by state officials. The company has stopped production and distribution of the recalled dog food. Retailers have been asked to remove the product from their shelves. If you’ve purchased the recalled product, you should discard it or return it to your retailer for a refund. This recall does not apply to any Billy + Margot products sold outside of the United States.
